I always enjoy adding custom touches to projects, adding some personalization for a special event. A lovely bride, Andrea, asked me to do the calligraphy for the wedding invitations she had already ordered. She chose a lovely and unique invitation layout and wanted an elegant touch to finish them off. I mixed up a custom navy blue calligraphy ink to match the wedding colors and the final piece turned out great.

This wedding invitation came together beautifully. It is definitely the most involved piece I’ve ever had the pleasure to design – letterpress printing, digital printing, handwritten calligraphy, wax seals and mounted photos (from their engagement session) were all just steps in the process to get to the final mailed piece. The bride and groom (friends of mine) also helped during printing and assembly, since the final piece was so complex.
For the design, the bride and the groom defined the style as “retro romantic” and wanted something that fit their wedding location, The Claremont Resort in Berkeley, CA. We ended up with a design that is clean and elegant, with a bit of art deco influence.

After the wedding suite is done, there’s often a bunch of extra bits and pieces to create and add to the wedding reception.
For Laura and Ryan, I worked on additional items to make their guests feel loved & welcomed at the event. My favorite piece is part of the welcome package for guests. Since many guests were coming from out of town and staying the entire weekend, Laura and Ryan put together some goodies and delivered them to the guest’s rental houses. This included a weekend itinerary, a cd with some songs special to the couple and a map of the local area. Another beautiful wedding suite I had the pleasure of working on. They have worked their way through the mail, now I get to share them here. The idea for these invitations was to stay simple and use flowers in the design motif. I had a lot of fun designing something so delicate this time around. Navy is the main wedding color, so I wanted to feature that in the set, while using silver as a nice finishing accent.

Laura & Ryan’s wedding is taking place in a small California coastal town, with a ceremony taking place on the beach. They wanted their invitations to reflect the location, but wanted to stay away from any traditional beach-styled theme. Since this is a destination wedding for many of the guests, a custom map is included as a fun extra to show the local area. The final invitation set is beautiful and casual, fitting their ideas perfectly. My favorite detail in this set is the “happy ever after to follow” included on the invitation.

Kristen & Ryan had their ceremony on the beach and wanted to incorporate that into their weddings. Except, they didn’t want anything traditionally used for a beach wedding, they wanted something a bit abstract with a bright pop of their wedding colors, bright blue and red. The designed in me appreciated the challenge and I had fun finding different ways to work the idea of water into the invitations. The final invitation suite turned out beautiful and fit their casual & fun wedding perfectly.

A wedding suite dreamed up, designed & lovingly screen printed by hand. I always knew I wanted to make my own wedding invitations by hand and it became a labor of love.
